POLICY – INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY RISK MANAGEMENT
Guidelines (source: AMF: AMF text adapted for general insurance firms)
Rapidly advancing technological innovations are helping to transform the processes and business models of companies in the insurance and financial services sector. These innovations, however, introduce significant risks while, at the same time, these same companies are increasingly interconnected or dependent on legacy systems and external suppliers to carry out their activities.
The adoption of technological innovations increases the risks of data loss, leakage, theft, corruption and unauthorised access. It further exposes institutions to the risk of cyber attacks, which are increasingly sophisticated, frequent, targeted and difficult to detect. The risks associated with information and communication technologies (ICT) can have adverse consequences, both financially and legally, as well as for a company’s customers and reputation.
In this context, ICT risk management should be comprehensive, robust and should feed into key disciplines such as strategic planning, outsourcing, change management, information security (including cyber security), business continuity and data management.
This guideline will evolve as knowledge of these topics develops. It is important to note that this guideline does not claim to cover all aspects of ICT risk management. Rather, it focuses on the elements disseminated by the AMF and on the recommendations of specialised third parties deemed relevant at the time of writing.
It is the company’s responsibility to have a clear understanding of the risks it faces and to ensure that they are taken into account
their nature, size, complexity of their activities and risk profile.
It is the company’s responsibility to have a clear understanding of the risks it faces and to ensure that they are taken into account in a way that is appropriate to their nature, size, the complexity of their activities and their risk profile.
